Common questions

How do I drive?

Tap Drive on the home screen. The left stick drives, the right stick turns, and the buttons on the right run the robot's mechanisms — claw, lift, intake. Everything about those controls can be changed under Settings → Controls: size, opacity, where each button sits, what it does, and whether a mechanism is a one-button toggle or a two-button hold.

Can I drive my own team's robot?

Yes. Go to Settings → Account → Submit a Robot, fill in your team and email, and choose your robot's file. We rebuild it by hand into a drivable robot — real joints, real pivots — and let you know when it is ready. It usually takes a few days.

Send an .fbx — export the whole robot as a mesh out of your CAD. A .urdf, or a .zip holding one and its meshes, also works. We cannot read .step, .f3d or other CAD formats — nothing on our side imports them — and the app will not list a file it cannot use, so an FBX is the one that gets your robot built. Do not trim it down first; we thin the mesh on our end.

How do I get my file into the app?

Open the Files app on your device, find the RoboSimL folder under On My iPhone or On My iPad, and copy your robot file into it. It will then appear when you tap Choose File.

What is a robot code?

When we finish setting up a robot that was submitted privately, we send the team a short code. On the device you submitted from it turns up in the app itself — open RoboSimL and a note on the home screen offers to add the robot for you. You can also type a code in by hand under Settings → Account. Codes are shareable — pass one to a teammate and it works on their device too.

You do not need a code to use the app. Every robot listed publicly is drivable without one.

I reinstalled and lost my code

Email us from the address you submitted with and we will send it again.

My robot could not be set up

It happens, and we always say why. The usual causes are an export that came through as one welded piece with nothing to pivot, an archive missing its meshes, or an assembly that arrived incomplete. All of them are fixed by re-exporting — we will tell you exactly what to change.

Delete my data

Email us and we will delete your submission, your email address, and any message addressed to you. There is no account to close — the app does not have accounts. Deleting the app removes everything stored on your device.

Privacy
